The Watergate Scandal
The Watergate was really important in the 70s. President Nixon was keeping secret that important files were stolen, for he did not want people to know that they were stolen. He had kept it secret for a whole year, but then one of his secretaries found out about it. That secretary told the world what Nixon had done, and after that next year as president, Nixon lost the election after all that he had done. Five men put tape on door locks and took out phone lines with thousand of dollars in their pocket, and they all tied in to Nixon's election. The men where found in the Democratic room getting info to reelect President Nixon. Nixon helped cover up the crime, and he kept tapes of everything that went on in the white house. Congress was wondering what was going on, so Congress asked Nixon for the tapes but he refuses. In the tapes they found out that Nixon was talking about the crime and the cover up. Nixon resigned because he knew he was going to be impeached. He was a great President but the scandal just messed him up.
