1973
In 1973 America withdrew from Vietnam and left the war in the hands of Nguyen Van Thieu, the president of south Vietnam. Thieu ordered a retreat in an attempt to defend Saigon, the capital city. America continued to financially support South Vietnam, and they still had military people in the embassy.
Americans hurried to withdraw from South Vietnam before the North Vietnamese invaded Saigon. This scene shows American military personnel leaving an apartment building into a helicopter, headed for their home.
