Bobby Fischer was born on March 9, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. In his early life, he became very interested in chess, and he dropped out of school at the age of sixteen, so he could pursue his dream. Although he was arrogant, rude, and self-centered, he became the first American to be a world chess champion in 1972, when he beat his opponent Boris Spassky.
